Unsolved Question

keeping a juniper outside.

I have a juniper and I've been told to keep it outside, but I'm a little worried about the New York winter winds being too cold and dry for it. It's been a few months since I left it outside and it seems to be doing fine so far.

I also took it inside yesterday to prune it a little. Is it ok to prune a juniper in winter?

you are correct that a juniper needs to stay outside. it needs the cold season to go through it dormant phase. however it also needs protection from those cold drying winter winds that will dry out the tree and roots and kill it. one good solution is to put the tree in a cooler to protect it from the winds but still allow it to go through it's cold season. just make sure to check it's moisutre as they still need water even in winter.
i'm not to sure about the pruning. i think most pruning takes place in the spring. i would kind of think that any pruning would leave a wound and even the smallest would still be an opening for more moisture to be lost.
