Solved Question

What is the best way to protect my tree against bug and insect pests?

Quite simply, how do I protect from bugs and pests? Aphids on the leaves, sometimes bugs in the soil. Can someone tell me how to keep them out?

As a general rule to guard against pests water and fertilize correctly. Don't "crowd" your bonsai together. Leave ample space between each plant for air to move and practice good house keeping by keeping fallen leaves and debris off of the soil surface.

Often the presence of bugs in or on the soil and on the tree itself in bonsai is caused by over watering or conditions that are to damp. Those pesky Aphids love to munch on new growth and as you know can really do a number on your tree(s) and drive you crazy in the process. Luckily Aphid control is easy with neem spray. Neem spray will also take care of the bugs on the soil as well.

Hy Ryvon,

There are many ways to protect your trees from bugs and pest, but I like to use Neem Oil as a prevention method. This article will help explain Neem Oil. http://www.learning2bonsai.com/articles/10-pest-and-problems/24-neem-oil

If your tree already has bugs, then you may want to consider purchasing pesticide soap to kill the pest. You don't need a bonsai specific soap if you already have something at home, but please read the label. Hope this help and that other provide alternative suggestions.
